Mission smile has reached a step further to its vision of ‘Cleft Free Assam’ with the successful completion of 15,000 surgeries with the surgery of the patient Arab Bordoloi in Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Care (GC4), MMC Hospital located in Panbazar, Guwahati, Assam on 7th March 2016. GC4 is a unique Public Private Partnership between the Govt. of Assam and Mission Smile where cleft surgeries are provided for free of cost with global standard.
Arab Bordoloi, 2 years old child was born with cleft lip in a poor family from Karbianglong district of Assam. His father is a tempo driver by occupation. When the baby was born, the parents are very disappointed because he was the first cleft baby in their entire family. They were very much apprehensive regarding the fate of the child though they have been assured by local ASHA workers that cleft can be cured and free treatment facilities are available in Assam. When they saw a newspaper advertisement about Mission smile (published by National Health Mission), they confirmed and quickly responded for the treatment of cleft lip surgery.
The cleft lip surgery gave them a big relief from tension and they really appreciated the corrective surgery done by Dr. Hemanta Kalita as Surgeon and Dr. Nabamallika Bora as Anaesthetist support in Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Care (GC4), Assam.
On that occasion, Dr. Madhav Rajvanshi MS (Gen. Surgery) Addl. Superintendent came and joined the team Mission Smile in an in-house celebration for 15000 smilestones.
