Divine Smile keeps him coming back to Mission Smile

Subrata Ghosh, still has the photo of the child, he encountered at Mission Smile. He recalls the story of Master Hrishikesh Roy, 6 month old, who belongs to a very poor and underprivileged family came to Mission Smile outreach centre. It was June 2014, the child was brought to the Mission Smile by his parents.  Though the surgery was difficult for him due to his congenital heart disease & other life-risk ailments, but he was operated successfully and Hrishikesh got his healed Smile back. “The child gifted us with a really Divine Smile on recovery!  I felt as if, I did a Great Job with Mission Smile!” says Subrata.

When Subrata looks at the picture of the child, it reminds him the journey of volunteering with Mission Smile.

Subrata always wanted to do something for the society and the poor and needy one. He started visiting Kalpataru hospital which now NH Super specialty Hospital and Mission Smile’s outreach centre frequently for helping the poor and underprivileged patients of nearby locality. One day he met team of Mission Smile who informed him about their missions and working for the noble cause cleft. Subrata came to know about the distressing condition of cleft in India.

Subrata recollects, “I have come to know that there are so many poor cleft lip & cleft palate patients in our country especially in West Bengal who have no sufficient money or knowledge to remove this deformity. I then decided to do something for them if I would get the chance. I feel pleased to find a victim of ‘cleft’ recovering and joining the mainstream society”. A cleft patient not only suffers from the deformity but also faces social stigma, bullying, and cruel ridicule. But they can lead a normal life after the corrective surgery of their cleft lip and cleft palate.

Subrata says, “I was interested to know Mission Smile’s aim & programs which satisfied me and I decided to join. I joined the Mission in the year 2010.” Now, after 6 years of his volunteerism, Subrata says the same thing keeps him coming back to Mission Smile to help more children.

Subrata believes that Mission Smile can reach more heights and can serve better through research and advanced studies. He feels, “Mission Smile should reach each and every person, through print and electronic media, creating awareness about such life transforming surgeries by which birth defects in lips, ears, nose or cheeks can be removed with normal look.”
