Little Tamina’s Smile Revived – Impact Story from KC4

At Kolkata Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre (KC4) we met Tamina Khatun (an eight-month-old baby girl) recently, who came with her mother all the way from Goraihati, a small village located in Ishwaripur, Bhangur, in South 24 Parganas. Little Tamina’s mother Selima Bibi narrated her heart-wrenching story of neglect and struggle which moved us all.

Selima had to leave her in-law’s house unwillingly since her husband refused to accept Tamina as his child due to the fact that the innocent baby was born with cleft lip and palate deformities. Unable to find a shelter, Selima and her daughter had to take refuge at her paternal house.

No matter how cruel misfortune was upon them, Selima was determined to get her daughter treated. Initially, she went to many hospitals for treatment but unfortunately, the surgery didn’t take place. However, she didn’t lose her patience. She came to know about our free surgical camp at Kolkata Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre (KC4) through our patient recruitment team.

Little Tamina was screened for surgery and was successfully operated at Kolkata Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre in Flemming Hospital by our surgical team on 21st April 2018. Thanks to all the doctors and volunteers who made this miracle happen for them. We salute the determination of mothers like Selima, who struggle through all odds yet never leave their cleft children till they receive their long-awaited ‘smile’.

A complete smile is still a distant dream for many cleft children. Your help in the form of donation can transform their lives! Donate to Mission Smile
