TRIPURA OUT REACH SURGICAL CAMP : A team from GC4 conducted 28 surgeries at Tripura out reach Camp this month .
The ONGC- Operation Smile India cleft surgery camp at the Tripura Medical College (TMC) Hospital jointly inaugurated by VP Mahawar, Asset Manager of ONGC Tripura and Dr. Sandeep N Mahatme, Mission Director of National Health Mission-Tripura on Thursday.
This Cleft Surgery Camp from February 19 – 22, 2015 is being organized by Operation Smile India with ONGC’s support, with the objective of bringing the smiles back to the lives of 30 cleft patients from the state. The infrastructure and manpower support to the Camp was provided by Department of Health and Family Welfare of Tripura government.
ONGC press communique said that ONGC is bearing the cost of operation of each patient and supporting this initiative funder its CSR programme. ONGC is a partner in the progress of Tripura and regularly ensures that the quality of life of people near its operational areas improves.
In February 2014, ONGC- Tripura joined hands with Operation Smile India to jointly support the treatment of 30 cleft patients from Tripura. During the interaction with the media today, Mahawar said, “ONGC is one of the biggest companies in Tripura and regularly supports various initiatives in health, education and entrepreneurship development. Cleft surgery will help the children to assimilate into the main stream of the society. ONGC has taken up CSR projects worth 40 crores in 2014-15 in the state”.
Medical Director of the Centre Dr. Hiteswar Sarma said, ‘we realize that the need in the state is huge and therefore we are here- to provide surgeries to the people and bring dignity back to their lives. We are grateful to ONGC for coming forward to support this endeavor of ours’.
According to Operation Smile India’s estimates, there are 4500+ patients still waiting for their cleft surgeries in Tripura. In other words, they are waiting for a chance at life.
